Tuesday - We continued working on Chapter 7 The Native Peoples of Canada with Ms McDade. We learned about the people of the Arctic. Ms McDade brought in artifacts from her time teaching and living in the Arctic. You were expected to complete a set of notes using the textbook and websites. These were handed in for assessment.
Wednesday - Elder Shirley Bien came in to show us how to make bannock. She explained the different ways of preparing bannock including the traditional way from long ago using birch ash for baking powder, ground willow for flour and bone marrow or rendered grease from meat instead of vegetable lard. Each student will receive a copy of the recipe and I encourage them to add try making it on their Nisutlin River canoe trip!
We spent the last twenty minutes of class working/researching the People of the Arctic and finishing up the notes assignment in the library.
Thursday - We continued working on Chapter 7. We learned about the 25 different First Nations of Canada including the languages spoken. We also learned about types of shelters and then went outside to build mini versions of lean-tos, tipis, pit houses, double lean-tos, wigwams, ridge poles/conical lodges, and domed tents. You did an impressive job with this activity. Well done!

You learned about the 8 different geographical regions in North America. We started with the Arctic region and completed a note template for this region together as a class. You were expected to use the class time to complete and submit all 8 note templates for assessment.
On Thursday we spent some time playing the online review game Cahoot and most of you demonstrated a solid understanding of the concepts studied so far in this unit. Bravo!
Friday - I hope you enjoyed your climbing trip! Ms McDade accompanied you on the trip and she incorporated the experiential activity into your afternoon, so I will not be doing the same activity on Monday.
